Olaudah Equiano was born in what is now called Nigeria in 1745. He was kidnapped with his sister aged 11 years and spent many years as an enslaved person. He was able to buy his freedom, then went on to become an abolitionist, write his biography and educate the world on the horrors of enslavement.
